Thanks for All Your Support

I was honored to be elected to the New Mexico State Senate on November 4, 2008 by the citizens of Senate District 15 in the Northeast Heights of Albuquerque.  Since then, I have served in three consecutive legislative sessions.  My hope is to be of service to District 15 constituents for another four years.

I consider being a member of the Senate, not only a privilege, but a solemn responsibility.  I fully realize and acknowledge my duty to serve not only the residents of my District but the people of New Mexico, as well.

Immigrant Driver's License Issue--2012

Senate Bill 235 is a compromise bill that is intended to limit the issuance of driver's licenses. In 2003, a law was passed requiring all residents of New Mexico, regardless of immigration status, to apply for a driver's license. In the 2011 and 2012 Legislative sessions, there was a push to repeal that law. The issue became polarized and the need for compromise was apparent.

Strengthens Identity and Residency Requirements

Dear New Mexico Taxpayer:

The Fiftieth Legislature convened at noon on January 17th, marking the beginning of my fourth session serving as your State Senator in District 15.  Because of the 2010 census, District 15 has been reconfigured, creating an area of new constituents for me extending to the west side of I-25 up to Edith Street.  I look forward to meeting many of these constituents in the next few months.
