Thanks for All Your Support

I was honored to be elected to the New Mexico State Senate on November 4, 2008 by the citizens of Senate District 15 in the Northeast Heights of Albuquerque.  Since then, I have served in three consecutive legislative sessions.  My hope is to be of service to District 15 constituents for another four years.

I consider being a member of the Senate, not only a privilege, but a solemn responsibility.  I fully realize and acknowledge my duty to serve not only the residents of my District but the people of New Mexico, as well.

Capital Outlay Requests

One of the primary planks in my campaign platform when I ran for New Mexico State Senate in 2008 was education and that topic will form a substantial element of my conversations with voters as we move into the 2012 election cycle.  During my three years (four sessions) in the Legislature, I have consistently focused on education to ensure that our state's schools begin to ascend from current low rankings and moving our schools forward to provide new opportunity for students and teachers alike.

Immigrant Driver's License Issue--2012

Senate Bill 235 is a compromise bill that is intended to limit the issuance of driver's licenses. In 2003, a law was passed requiring all residents of New Mexico, regardless of immigration status, to apply for a driver's license. In the 2011 and 2012 Legislative sessions, there was a push to repeal that law. The issue became polarized and the need for compromise was apparent.
