Roundhouse Report #1, February 6, 2009

During the Legislative Session, I will be providing brief updates on important issues facing the 49th Session of the New Mexico Legislature.  Also, I will provide information on Legislation I have introduced.

To date, I have introduced four pieces of legislation:

  • SB 312, School District Clerk Minimum Salaries
  • SB 313, Cruelty to Animals Includes Abandoment, Dehydration, and Starvation
  • SB 395, Railroad-Highway Grade Crossing Penalties
  • SB 494, Electronic Stalking & Child Communication

SB 312 calls for raising the minimum salaries of school clerks, secretaries, and bookkeepers throughout the state.  This legislation passed out of the Education Committee without any opposition.  It will now go before the Finance Committee where it will have to compete with many other appropriation bills in a very difficult economic environment as the State Budget for 2010 is put together by the Legislature.

As before, I welcome you to visit me or my staff while we are in session.  I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be your Senator.
